SHAREWRE ECHO RULES AND POLICIES
Revised 15 SEP 92
******************************************************************
English is the official echo language.
In compliance with Fidonet Echo Policy, the following rules will
be posted no less than once per month, and nothing in these rules
will supercede or replace any valid Fidonet rule or policy.
-> ALL USERS WHO HAVE ACCESS TO THIS CONFERENCE MUST READ THIS. <-
-> BY POSTING IN THE ECHO, YOU AGREE TO ACCEPT AND ABIDE BY THE <-
-> RULES AS HERE POSTED. <-
This is the International Fidonet Echomail Conference SHAREWRE, paid for by
those systems which help distribute it; so let's try to help keep costs down.
Its topic: Software distributed via the shareware method of software
distribution. Includes Public Domain, Freeware, and test drives of commercial
programs.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Messages must remain on the topic of this conference as described above.
Let the Moderator do the Moderating!
2. Foul or obscene language and personal invective will not be tolerated.
Flames should go to the FLAME Echo.
3. Personal messages, chit chat and nonsense are not permitted. Personal
messages and individual thank you messages should be sent by netmail.
If you don't have access, discuss it with your local sysop. Encrypted,
encoded or rotated messages are forbidden. Messages in this echo are
considered public domain.
4. Keep the quoted portions of your messages SHORT. Excessive quoting adds
to expense and overhead. Quote just enough to identify the thread of the
conversation for other users.
5. Discussions of any shareware program are encouraged, but, if a shareware
program is popular enough to have its own specific echo, lengthy
conversations about it should be taken there.
6. Posting of test messages, exchange of game clues, and posting of BBS ads
will be considered annoying behavior. A BBS offering shareware files, or
access to echomail is welcome to make a _one time_ announcement in the
echo at the time of startup.
7. Advertising for commercial ventures, even though Shareware related, will
not be tolerated. Use either a local conference which permits such
material, or use Fidonet Matrix mail, where only you pay for it.
NOTE: An author's announcement of a Shareware program will not be
considered a commercial advertisement.
8. So called "High ASCII" or eight bit ASCII characters are not permitted in
this echo. If you can produce the character with one key stroke, or the
shift key plus one key stroke, it is legal. If the control or alternate
key must be used, it's not.
9. This conference MAY NOT be ported to the BIX echomail system, CompuServe
or to any other network's mail system without the express written
permission of the Moderator.
10. Questioning or discussion of Moderator policy in the open echo is off
topic, except that the Moderator reserves the right to post special
messages relating to such policy and rules from time to time for the
edification of all participants. I welcome, will listen to and consider,
any suggestion or criticism which reaches me by private mail, or by
voice 'phone at (512)-447-1284.
11. Real names must be provided if you are using an alias or
handle.
